A Little About Me…

Hello & thanks for visiting my page!  I’m Melissa, Pharmacist and Fitness Coach. I have a wonderful husband and we have three fur babies. I was inspired to pursue pharmacy as a career by a pharmacist I worked with who was passionate about counseling his patients on their medications and disease states. I wanted to be that person- the person people felt comfortable coming to for questions and having the knowledge to help them.
In 2009 I started my own healthy living and fitness journey. In pharmacy school I was learning about the dangers of obesity: heart disease, stroke, heart attack, high blood pressure, diabetes, weak bones and others.

I decided it was time I started taking care of myself.

A friend loaned me a copy of Beachbody’s Turbo Jam and a Treadclimber. My life changed forever. I learned to love exercise, lost weight (which felt great!), learned to appreciate my body and developed a healthier relationship to food.

I became a Beachbody Coach to keep myself motivated and committed, be able to share my story with others and help them be successful in their journeys. I now have knowledge to share about diseases and health conditions, how medications can help (or hurt) and personal experience learning how to transform my own lifestyle. I have been able to help people quit smoking, take control of their diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol.  If you are ready to take control of your life, I am here for you. 🙂

I am also a resident “Wizpert.” Have questions about medication, nutrition, exercise, weight loss, diabetes, high cholesterol, high blood pressure…? Tired of message boards? This is a great way to connect to experts in various fields instantly! Please don’t hesitate to ask for a counseling session! Currently offering this unique service for FREE! 🙂

Thanks for stopping by my blog! I’m just trying to lose weight for now, and my short term goal is to participate in and finish the 5K they have every year around my birthday. After that I intend to start P90X, which as I’m sure you know is by Beachbody. I’ve had it for over three years now, but never managed to get through even the first week. Hopefully once my birthday rolls around I’ll be fit enough to actually do the program.

When is your birthday? I am a Beachbody fan… 🙂 P90X is certainly both physically intense and time-intensive! I think I’ve had it for over a year but haven’t done it – mostly b/c I usually can’t commit 90 minutes to a workout! Maybe once a week but usually I’ve only got 45-60 min available.. I’ve done Turbo jam & Chalean Extreme. I’m in the middle of Turbo Fire right now (LOOOVE IT!!) (There are other programs that are not quite so demanding… if you are looking for some at-home exercise options..)

I look forward to following your progress! I would wish you luck but I’ve decided that’s not quite the right sentiment… Wishing you strength and commitment to achieving your goals!

My birthday’s in the beginning of March. I think the 5K is on March 3, and my birthday is on the 6th. I’ve always wanted to do the program because I’ve seen the kind of results it has when people stick with it, and that’s really the reason I’ve been doing my blog so that I’ll have something to keep me motivated. I intend to keep it up while I do P90X, and whatever happens afterward. I may do P90X part 2 afterwards, the second version my program came with. I’m glad you’re with Beachbody, so hopefully I’ll be able to bounce questions off you. I don’t have enough time in my day to really participate in an online community or else I’d be hitting them up all the time.

🙂 It’s great you’re keeping the blog! I’ll be happy to help w/ your questions! Yeah, P90X2 just came out- exciting! It does have really great results. I’ve heard great things about Insanity too – I think my husband is going to start that one soon so I’ll let you know – I think the workouts are shorter and maybe easier to modify… or so I’ve heard 🙂

Hi! Thanks for checking out my blog 🙂 I am browsing through yours – you have such an interesting story to tell, congrats on almost being done pharmacy school! In undergrad I loved biochemistry so much I almost switched to pre-pharm but (as you can see) stuck to my original plan to be a registered dietitian. Best of luck!

Thanks for reading! I am so excited about graduating! The one thing I have been disappointed in though is that we did not get enough about nutrition in school. We learned a lot about diseases, diagnostics, drugs & treatments… but not nearly enough about diet & how it can help & prevent these conditions! I am really interested in preventative medicine. It’s a tough ‘field’ because generally, the folks that need that kind of care (ummm everyone..) don’t go to the MD until they feel ‘sick.’ So glad I found you blog – I have a lot to learn! 🙂
